Best Fitness App: Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness Review

What is Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness?

Geared towards women, Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness is an app that is a complement to the Bikini Body Guide by Kayla Itsines, a famous Australian personal trainer. If you’ve never completed the Bikini Body Guide, that’s okay, you can still utilize Sweat to pursue your own fitness goals as the workouts and nutritional recommendations are from the BBG.

Backed by a widely popular and supportive female-dominated fan base and fitness community, Sweat is one of the most popular fitness apps on iTunes and Play Store. The BBG provides you with 12-weeks’ worth of workouts that can be performed both at the gym and at home in about 30 minutes. You’ll also get access to 12-weeks of nutritional guides.

Unlike many other workout tracking apps out there, Sweat does not have a free and premium distinction. In order to take advantage of Sweat, you’ll need to sign up for the monthly subscription fee. There is a free trial, which is something I’ll expand on below.

Strengths of Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness

Variety of Workouts

The variety of resistance-based workouts is impressive. Sweat cycles through different muscle groups as well as training methodologies such as fundamental resistance training, high intensity interval training (HIIT), low intensity steady state cardio (LISS), and stretching.

Very Beginner Friendly

The ease at which someone new to fitness could pick up the app and use it is worth taking note. Not only is the physical layout easy to use but the exercises and stretches come with instructions and videos to ensure anyone who is new to the program won’t be left confused.

Stays Up-to-Date

Unlike some fitness apps, Sweat does stay on the cusp of user-friendliness and access by staying with the curve. This may not seem like much but think about how many apps you’ve deleted or forgotten about because they didn’t stay up-to-date and became impossibly frustrating to use. With a great interface and constantly updated software, Sweat is a serious contender for top fitness app.

Things Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness Could Improve

Free Trial and Cost

On forums and review sites across the web, you’ll find countless negative reviews of free trials that turned into monthly subscription plans before the trial was up. As I mention above, this is not a free app and the cost itself is considerably higher than most out there at $19.99 a month. There is also a yearly option available at $120. Something to consider if you are on a tight budget.

Old News

If you’ve already purchased and completed the Bikini Body Guide outside of the app, then everything you’ll find in the app will be a review. At that price point, having old workouts recycled back to you will quickly become a headache.

Best Fitness App: Do I Recommend Sweat with Kayla?

The cost can be the biggest hit here but if you’ve never purchased and completed the BBG, I’d say give this fitness app a try, especially since Kayla has free trials and $1-for-12-weeks offers.
