Many people’s diets incorporate foods that cause inflammation which can lead to chronic diseases. The Zone Diet aims to reduce diet induced inflammation, improving mental and physical performance. Read on to find out more about how it works.

What is the Zone Diet?

The Zone Diet was created by Dr. Barry Sears over 30 years ago. It is designed to help you lose body fat quickly, maintain wellness, perform better and think faster.

The diet controls hormonal balance, reducing diet induced inflammation. Omega-3 fatty acids are used to control inflammation while polyphenols control gut biology and slow the aging process. The Zone recommends taking supplements to provide these health benefits including a Pasta Rx which increases lean body mass and curbs hunger.

Those that are on the diet can expect to lose body fat making for an all over leaner appearance. On the Zone plan, you will be eating 3 meals and two snacks a day which will include low fat protein and a small amount of good fat.

Exercise on the Zone Diet

The diet has no set work out regimen but recommends moderate but consistent exercise. This can include 30 minutes of aerobic exercise every day along with 5 to 10 minutes of strength training.

Nutrition on the Zone Diet

The Zone Diet recommends protein, carbohydrates and a little bit of monounsaturated fat. Foods you can expect to eat include grains and starches, low-fat protein, fruits and vegetables. The recommended food pyramid provides optimal protein to glycemic load balance for improved hormonal control.

The diet also assures you have ample polyphenol levels in your diet. Polyphenol plays a major role in controlling bacteria composition in the digestive system while controlling inflammation and activating anti-aging genes.
